FSMO stand for Flexible Single Master Operation and FSMO roles also know as operation master roles. Help you prevent conflicts in your active directory.
There are five type of FSMO roles.
- Schema Master ⇨ One per forest.
- Domain Naming Master ⇨ One per forest.
- Relative id (RID) Master ⇨ One per Domain.
- Primary Domain Controller Master ⇨ One per Domain.
- Infrastructure Master ⇨ One per Domain.
How to see Five FSMO roles in windows server 2016.
Step. 1
- Go to Server Manager
- Then Click on tool button.
- Then click on Active Directory Domain services and trust.
- Right click on Active Directory Domain services and trust.
- Click on operations master.
- Show Domain Naming Master
Step. 2
- Go to server manager
- Click on tool button.
- Then click on active directory domain controller.
- Right click on forest name.
- Then show three FSMO roles
- Relative id (RID) Master.
- Primary Domain Controller Master.
- Infrastructure Master.
Step. 3
- Press W+R
- Type MMC
- Go to file option.
- Click 'add' Remove option.
- Add Schema Master And Ok
- (if active directory schema is not available MMC)
How to show all FSMO roles through command.
- Open powershell Command.
- Type netdom query fsmo
Show all FSMO roles on powershell command interface.
How to transfer FSMO roles to other server though command.
- Open command prompt
- netdom query fsmo

- connect to server DC domain name
